What this calculator tells you
This finds all eight Chara Karakas — from the Atmakaraka to the Darakaraka. In the Jaimini system these planets take their roles not from their signs but from their degrees.
How the calculation works
Eight planets are used — Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn and Rahu. Ketu is not part of this scheme. Each one’s degree within its own sign is taken, and the highest becomes the Atmakaraka. One rule matters: Rahu is measured in reverse — 30 minus its degree, because it moves backwards.
How to read the result
The order is everything: first the Atmakaraka (the soul), second the Amatyakaraka (work), then Bhratri, Matri, Pitri, Putra, Gnati and Dara. The Atmakaraka is the foundation of the whole Jaimini calculation — the Karakamsa is built from it. So an error here makes everything after it wrong, and omitting Rahu’s reversal is the usual error.
Common questions
Why is Ketu excluded?
Because Ketu is treated as the moksha karaka — it already holds a fixed role. So it is left out of the eight-karaka scheme. Some lineages work with seven karakas instead.
What if two planets have exactly the same degree?
It effectively never happens, since degrees are carried to decimals. If two are very close, question the birth time — a few minutes can reorder them.
Does the Atmakaraka change?
No. It is fixed by the birth chart. What changes is transit, not the chara karakas.
