How the calculation works
Your Moon sign is found first. Sade Sati is the stretch during which Saturn transits the 12th, the 1st and the 2nd sign from it — three signs, roughly 2½ years each, about 7½ years in all. Saturn’s actual position is computed and its forward path traced, so the dates are not rough approximations.
How to read the result
The three phases are treated separately, not as one block. Separately, Saturn in the 4th from the Moon sign is Kantaka Shani and in the 8th is Ashtama Shani — both are dhaiyas, not Sade Sati. The page keeps them visually distinct so the two are not confused.

Saturn takes about 29½ years to complete one circuit, so Sade Sati recurs roughly every 30 years — two or three times in an average lifetime.
Is Sade Sati always a bad period?
No. It is a phase, not a curse. The outcome depends on Saturn’s condition in your own chart — for many people this is the period that finally brings stability.
Can it be counted from the Sun sign?
By tradition, Sade Sati is counted from the Moon sign only. Counting from the Sun sign gives a wrong result.
