What this calculator tells you
This gives your Sun sign in both systems — Vedic (sidereal) and Western (tropical). The two often differ, and that is not an error; they are two different measurements.
How the calculation works
The Sun’s true position is computed for your birth moment. The Western system divides that directly into 30° segments. The Vedic system subtracts the Lahiri ayanamsa first — currently about 24°. Because of that offset, most people’s Vedic Sun sign comes out one sign earlier than their Western one.
How to read the result
Both answers are shown together; neither is hidden. One thing worth knowing: in Indian astrology “rashi” usually means the Moon sign, not the Sun sign. So if someone asks for your rashi, they most likely want that.
Common questions
Why has my sign changed?
It hasn’t — there are two systems. The ayanamsa offset is about 24° and a sign spans 30°. So if your Sun sits early in a sign, the sidereal calculation places it in the previous one.
Which one is correct?
Both, within their own system. Use sidereal for a Vedic reading and tropical for a Western one. Mixing them is the mistake.
How important is the Sun sign?
In the Vedic system it indicates the father, confidence and standing — but the Ascendant and Moon sign carry the chart.
