Today’s Panchang

Every Panchang timing is measured from sunrise in your own city — not from fixed clock hours. That is why Delhi and Chennai have a different Rahu Kaal on the very same day.

Calculating the Panchang…

What this page tells you

This is the full panchang for your city — all five limbs: tithi, vaara, nakshatra, yoga and karana. Sunrise and sunset, Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya, Hora and the Abhijit muhurat are given alongside.

How it is calculated

“Panchang” means five limbs. The tithi comes from the angular difference between the Sun and the Moon (one per 12°); the nakshatra from the Moon’s position; the yoga from the sum of the two; the karana from half a tithi; and the vaara from the weekday. Sunrise and sunset are computed astronomically for the latitude and longitude of the city you choose. Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya and Hora are traditional divisions resting on those two moments.

How to read it

Every entry carries its timing, and those timings are your city’s — so another city gives a different panchang, and that is correct. The tithi and nakshatra can change during the day, so the moment they change is given too. All of the computation happens in this browser; your city and date are not sent anywhere.

Common questions

Why does the panchang differ from city to city?

Because it rests on sunrise, which occurs at a different moment everywhere. Applying one panchang to a whole country is wrong.

Why do two panchangs list different tithis?

A tithi changes partway through a day. Some traditions record the tithi running at sunrise, others the one running at the moment — different conventions give different answers.

What happens where the sun does not rise?

Near the poles there are days with no sunrise or sunset at all. There this page says plainly that no timing can be produced, rather than inventing one.

All the calculation happens in this browser — your city and date are never sent anywhere. Sunrise and sunset come from astronomical computation; Rahu Kaal, Choghadiya and Hora are traditional divisions built on top of them. This is offered as guidance, not as a promise of any outcome.
