How it is calculated
The seven weekdays and their rulers follow an astronomical order, not an arbitrary one: Sunday–Sun, Monday–Moon, Tuesday–Mars, Wednesday–Mercury, Thursday–Jupiter, Friday–Venus, Saturday–Saturn. One point matters: in Vedic reckoning the day begins at sunrise, not midnight. So the hours before sunrise still belong to the previous weekday.
How to read it
The weekday’s ruler colours the whole day, and the first hora of that day belongs to the same ruler. Which segment is Rahu Kaal is fixed by the weekday too, as is the order of the Choghadiya. So the vaara is not merely a name — the other three rest on it.
Common questions
Why does the day begin at sunrise?
Because Vedic reckoning is anchored to the Sun rather than the clock. That is why 2 a.m. still counts as the previous day — and why fasting decisions follow the same rule.
Which weekday suits which work?
Go by the ruling planet — Thursday for study and auspicious work, Friday for art and relationships, Saturday for work needing patience. But a weekday alone is not a muhurat.
Are the English and Hindu weekdays the same?
Yes. Both run on the same seven-day cycle with the same planetary rulers — Sunday/Sun, Monday/Moon, and so on. The difference is only in when the day is taken to begin.
