Dasha Calculator
The Vimshottari dasha begins from the birth nakshatra — which is why it depends entirely on the time of birth. The full cycle runs 120 years.
What this calculator tells you
This shows which Mahadasha, Antardasha and Pratyantardasha you are currently running, and until when. The full Vimshottari cycle spans 120 years, with a fixed share allotted to each planet.
How the calculation works
It starts from your birth nakshatra — its lord becomes the lord of the first Mahadasha. However far the Moon had already travelled through that nakshatra is treated as a proportion of the first period already elapsed at birth. After that the order is fixed: Ketu 7, Venus 20, Sun 6, Moon 10, Mars 7, Rahu 18, Jupiter 16, Saturn 19, Mercury 17 years.
How to read the result
The Mahadasha is the broad period, the Antardasha a shorter one within it, and the Pratyantardasha shorter still. Read the three together — a Mahadasha alone does not give a conclusion. A dasha marks timing, not events; what happens depends on how that planet sits in your chart.
Common questions
Why Vimshottari specifically?
Parashara names it as the primary system for this age, and it is by far the most used in practice. Other systems such as Ashtottari exist, but apply under particular conditions.
My dasha looks wrong — why?
Usually the birth time. A few minutes can shift the nakshatra, and a different nakshatra changes the entire dasha sequence.
Does a difficult dasha mean a difficult time?
No. A dasha only says which planet is currently prominent. Where and how that planet sits in your chart is what decides the outcome.
